Mechanism

Classic psychedelics are 5-HT2A agonists (LSD also hits 5-HT2C, 5-HT1A, dopamine and adrenergic receptors). 5-HT2A agonism inhibits sexual activity in male rodents but can facilitate in females; LSD-induced oxytocin release is 5-HT2A-dependent and enhances empathy.

Hours-long altered state; acute performance often impaired by altered consciousness.
Reversibility
Acute; a mixed-methods study suggests possible post-acute improvement in aspects of sexual function.

Anecdotal reports describe heightened sensory awareness, emotional connection and intense feeling; ego dissolution may enhance or disrupt the experience.
